Alia Swastika

Alia Swastika has been Program Director for Ark Galerie, Yogyakarta since 2008 and is actively involved as curator, project manager and writer in several international exhibitions. She was Co-Curator, with Suman Gopinath, of Biennale Jogja XI Shadow Lines: Indonesia Meets India (2011) and one of the co-artistic directors for Gwangju Biennale IX, (2012). Swastika was curator of a special exhibition of Indonesian artists as part of Art Dubai, 2012 and has curated exhibitions of many important artists in Indonesia including Eko Nugroho, Tintin Wulia, Wimo Ambala Bayang and Jompet Kuswidananto, among others.
She was a research fellow at the National Art Gallery, Singapore in 2009, participated in a curatorial residency in BizArt, Shanghai in 2008, and was part of a fellowship programme organised by Kelola Foundation in 2006. As the director of Jogja Biennale 2015, she is a member of the International Biennale Association Board. Recently she founded Study on Art Practices, a platform for research on Indonesian contemporary art.
